Chris Kyle Memorial Plaza Unveiling in Odessa, TX
ODESSA, Texas– The unveiling of the Chris Kyle Memorial Plaza will take place on Thursday, July 28 at 11:00 a.m. The plaza is located at 8050 E HWY 191, behind Medical Center Health System’s Center for Health and Wellness. The 2,800 square-foot plaza broke ground in early April and will be open to the public.
“The goal is for the setting to be a healing and peaceful place for veterans and their families receiving care at the medical center, and those citizens who want to stop by and take a moment in honor of Chris and all those who serve,” said Taya Kyle, wife of war veteran Chris Kyle.
Led by a committee of prominent Odessans, under the auspices of the Odessa Community Foundation, the Chris Kyle Memorial Plaza project was an effort driven by fundraising. Among some of the attendees at the memorial unveiling are Congressman K. Michael Conaway, Senator Kel Seliger, State Representative Brooks Landgraf, renowned artist and sculptor Vic Payne, nationally recognized country singer Larry Gatlin, who will sing the national anthem, and several members of the Kyle Family.
“I am proud of the entire West Texas community for stepping up and honoring a distinguished veteran that was born here in Odessa,” said Kirk Edwards, Chairman of the Chris Kyle Memorial Committee. “I am also proud of the Chris Kyle memorial committee for their time, energy and talents to bring this statue and memorial plaza to reality. Long after we leave this earth, future West Texans and visitors to the area will be gratified to see that a community came together to honor one of its own that served this country so selflessly. I am personally humbled to be a small part of such a great group, community and state.”
The event will be open to the public and lunch will be offered by the famous Chuck Wagon Gang to attendees who purchase lunch tickets. Tickets can be purchased online at www.ocwg.org.
